With the Colorado winter quickly approaching (Brr! We had four inches of snow today!) our classroom needs supplies to support our indoor recess time. Due to COVID precautions, building level materials and equipment are unable to be used at this time. Items like a parachute, balls, sensory stones, and more will be utilized during this time, alongside music and movement activities within the classroom, to support and assess all students in the area of gross motor, communication, and social skills. Help me get my students moving their bodies, interaction with friends, and saying words like "Weeee!" and "Go!" Today, we had indoor recess. Because it was the first snow of the winter, each student crumpled paper (great fine motor skill!) to make snowballs. Once all students made two, we tossed them on a parachute (that my neighboring teacher let me borrow) and we moved the parachute in different ways--we showed the snow falling lightly, getting heavier, and blizzard conditions! Afterward, SNOWBALL FIGHT! The students had a blast. With these hand-picked items, I can continue to provide novel, high interest, and meaningful activities for the students during this time.
