My project contains a mix of therapy materials to help target speech goals, as well as games that will be used to help motivate students during their session. Although many of my speech therapy materials and games have become digital, there are many physical therapy items that just can't be replaced! For example, board games! In speech therapy, board games are used as a reward for students' hard work in therapy. Even though students are learning from home, board games can still be used with a document camera to play with students. Once students are back to school in person, these board games will be waiting for them. Board games are also a great way to elicit language from students. During board games, students request turns, comment on what's happening in the game, practice taking turns with others, and practice being good winners and losers! Overall, attending to a computer screen for an extended period of time can be difficult for students, especially students with special needs. However, these physical therapy materials and games can help to engage students in a way digital materials just can't.
