These calming corners will provide a safe place for students to learn to calm and find their own happy places within their homes during distance learning. We use calming corners at Grant and this will provide that link between what we do at school and home during covid. This will also provide normalizing, stability, and grounding for students who are missing school and need that explicit instruction on how to regulate. The calming corners are a tool we use in our school to help provide a break and time to relax. Every teacher will be able to refer to these corners as a way to give students a time to cool off, or to practice mindfulness, and come back to learning. This will be extremely important during our time of learning through computers and home.
