These books will help me to connect my students to characters in stories. It will help them to see themselves in our classroom as well as help them to relate to the characters and challenges that those characters face. Students need to be able to read books and see characters that look like them in order for them to feel valued, loved, and cared about. Students need to see what people who look like them have done or become to encourage them to continue moving forward. I picked a variety of non-fiction and fiction stories in order to achieve this.
