I started including flexible seating in my second year of teaching. I have now been teaching for four years and have noticed an increase in student focus with flexible seating. I have added different styles of seating in my room and it benefits my students in different ways. I teach fourth grade and my students switch classes three times a day, they are more focused when they are able to move around in their seats, sit lower to the ground, or at a higher table. I also use flexible seating as an incentive. Students work their way to flexible seating options by showing growth in their learning, behavior, or showing acts of kindness. Students will work hard to replace their seat with flexible seating, and after achieving it the students will realize that learning is fun, making good choices will give them a great day, and being kind will make others be kind in return. Thanks to flexible seating students keep wanting to grow in their learning, have great behavior, are kind to each other, and will stay focused during our class time.
