My students have up to 7 different classes to navigate through, which requires them to organize, evaluate and transition almost every hour. They often get frustrated because they lose items or cannot navigate the best way to maintain work. This has shown true for in-person and virtual learning. Moreover, the level of focus and attention that are required of children to participate in a classroom has shown to also be a struggle. Color coding units of work along with helping students find ways to focus their energy can help students understand, internalize and apply the content delivered. Understanding and application are crucial to a student succeeding in and out of the classroom. Every student learns, just not in the same way. Middle school years are the year's many students start realizing and utilizing productive strategies that can take them through high school and beyond. Specifically, strategies that complement their learning styles and strengths. They will be able to foster these styles through high school and fine-tune their strengths into adulthood. I've observed that organization strategies and focus tools have helped tremendously. My students require more innovative methods to learn content in addition to executive functioning skills, so they can self-monitor and plan for the interactions they encounter every day. I am requesting materials to color code specific grade-level content. The multicolor paper and the colored pens will be used to model and demonstrate organization. This in turn will help my students understand and organize each content area. The fidgets that I am requesting will aid in productivity in school.
