A table is not just a table. In an early intervention classroom having an appropriately sized table and chairs plays a major role in the effectiveness of student learning. It can increase student engagement, focus and involvement. Younger students need to have tables that allow for small increments of height adjustment in order for them to have correct body posture to engage in their learning. Using adjustable tables makes student learning easier and more enjoyable. Our classroom has a variety of chairs where the students’ feet are firmly planted on the ground for stability. But if the tables are too high, the students have increased barriers to doing their work. Having adjustable tables will give my early learners a foundation to increase independence and progress towards their goals.
