Using math "tools" or manipulatives is the key for second graders. One advantage of using manipulatives is that they will enhance and drive the students' learning. Students need to "touch" and manipulate the tools to help inspire them to learn. Using math tools enables the students to grasp and develop a deeper understanding of the critical math concepts presented in second grade. Math tool boxes make learning fun and interesting. They intrigue and motivate while helping students learn. This is is what exactly my students need when working from home. I will be providing my second graders tools so they can be actively engaged in math lessons and assignments when they work remotely. Their home will be their new school and the students will need the same materials that they would have access to if they were in school.
