By adding new book titles to my classroom that focus on empowerment, self esteem, acceptance, and diversity, my students will have the opportunity to grow socially and emotionally as well as academically. The new book titles will be used both in the classroom as well as for distance learning. Additionally, they can be checked out to be taken home and shared with families. Having a PA in the classroom will be a huge benefit in eliminating the struggle to hear what is being read and discussed in the classroom from behind masks. Currently, as I read to my socially distanced first graders, they are not able to decipher all that is being said. They also struggle to hear their classmates during book talks, which leads to disengagement. Not to mention, the difficulty students have as I teach phonics through a mask. With the speaker and microphones, everyone will be heard and enhanced learning will take place. The portable PA system will also allow for the ability to take my class outdoors for teaching while still being heard. When we take our masks off, we are to be 6 feet apart making it very difficult to project your voice and hear others speak. With the wireless mics and speaker, not only will we be able to hear each other, but we will be able to see each other's expressions and entire face while learning. The challenges we are facing in the classroom currently are numerous, but this project will make each day more meaningful and enjoyable.
