As a fourth grade team, this project is one part of a three part project for all fourth grade teachers. The students in each class will receive a small canvas with a pre-drawn abstract design for them to add a splash of color. They will have the choice of medium-sharpies or oil pastels to cover their canvas. Unbeknownst to each student, the 6 x6 canvas tile is similar to a puzzle piece. By itself, it looks unrecognizable, and insignificant, however, it is actually a mosaic piece that is part of a bigger painting that will be unveiled. When pieced together with other students' canvas tiles, it will form one complete painting that symbolizes the importance of having a strong connection with one another as we continue to tackle the distance learning curve. Now, more than ever, with COVID 19 and distance learning, I want my students to understand how ONE voice, ONE vision, and ONE part of themselves can yield a GREATER understanding, GREATER community and GREATER PURPOSE. This project is all about the importance of building a strong connection, teacher to student, student to student, and student to the community. The result will be a kaleidoscope of colors and a true masterpiece that reflects how the Power of ONE, collectively, yields a BIG PICTURE of who each student is meant to be —impacting others for the benefit of ALL.
