Tangible rewards are excellent motivation for my second grade students. As students work hard on their daily homework of reading, spelling and math, they are showing responsibility and I want to encourage them! Every day of completing their homework earns them a ticket. Participating in class, being on task, and helping others are also ways that they can earn tickets throughout the day. These tickets are counted and recounted as they prepare for the class store where they can spend those hard-earned tickets on all kinds of fun items. The items I have selected for this store are second grader approved and will bring squeals of delight! I am sure that they will also cause many minutes of deliberation as students try to choose between so many great options.
