Studying the human body can be overwhelming at times. The new terminology, the numerous body parts and functions, it can be like studying a foreign language. Learning all the parts of the body, along with the composition of each part, and how each part fits with the other parts to make the whole requires a lot of work. Human anatomy and physiology is made much easier for students to comprehend when students can have hands-on experiences measuring and investigating the body. I am working to make anatomy and physiology come alive for my students by upgrading our classroom to have the equipment necessary to explore through labs, experiments, and other hands-on experiences. We currently have very limited supplies and lack the basic equipment like blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, and reflex hammers to investigate body functions. I want students who have dreams of entering medical fields to become nurses, doctors, vets, and other scientific careers to have the early experiences that will allow them to explore their passion and hopefully inspire others to consider jobs in those fields as well.
