My project is designed to enhance my interactive read-aloud library. Our school has an amazing "Squad" program where my students start each daily learning about self-awareness, self-management, relationships with others, social-emotional skills, and making responsible decisions. Social-emotional learning is essential to a child’s development in order for them to develop a voice for themselves and empathy for others. The funds from this project will be used to support our Squad meetings and literacy curriculum lessons. The duplicate copies of books will give much-needed literacy support during our interactive “read-aloud" discussion circles, both in person and during online learning. Every year my kiddos always tend to gravitate towards the 1 copy I read aloud, I believe by placing additional individual copies of books in the hands of our young learners will aid in reading support, site word recognition and support building a strong vocabulary, in addition to having students exposed to characters and story themes that they can relate to on a social-emotional level.
