The use of Edison Robots in my classroom would be part of a unit allowing daily access in my classroom after the unit is covered. Using the CTE model with alignment to math, technology and science, the students use whiteboards, and copied card stock paper robots for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. It is an easy way for them to share and model work in teams. The whiteboards and cardstock robots allow me to monitor the teams. When presenting and recreating the paper robots students know that they must work together and produce the executions for the robot on paper, however we have lots of distractions. Even though they are great about working with each other, it is distracting for many of my students who have language barriers or focusing issues and they miss important instruction form either myself or other students. By having the actual Edison Robots, students will be able to avoid these problems and focus on increasing their learning with specific experiential learning experiences. Students would be allowed to continue reinforcement and scaffolding when other work is done to continue exploring with the Edison Robots. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their interest in math and science careers and ultimately improve academic achievement across the content. Students will be able to focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or last. Alignment with technology, math and science manipulatives will increase their technology skills.
