Studies have proven that when a student's basic needs are not meet or a student does not feel supported, they are not able to succeed academically. The motivational poster will be used to encourage our students that battle with depression that it is okay to speak up, to ask for help, and to keep pushing through the difficult time. The photo frames will be used to preserve the posters as well as prevent them from getting ripped up when an angry student is using the safe space. Due to COVID-19 students need to be able to speak freely without the restriction of a mask, the sneeze glass will allow students to do just with the protection. With the calm area student will have relaxation tools such as the plants, a weight blanket, stress balls, and mindfulness cards. The kitchen timers will be used for student accountability and ensure that students are not spending the entire day in calm space created at our school.
