I am serving students with disabilities virtually which is a challenging task for all involved! I have noticed that many of these students do not have simple but helpful tools at home. I want to be able to give these students some basic supplies, such as pen and paper, as well as the ability to copy and trace over worksheets that I send home. Some of my students have challenges holding a writing utensils, and a pencil grip will help their hands manage these tools without hand pain or frustration. Through a video camera on zoom, it is quite difficult to view their work on lined paper with pencil, and most of my students are unable to write on their touchscreens. A dry erase marker and hard, transparent board will benefit both me (the viewer) and help the students truly show what they know. With these writing tools, my students will be able to truly show what they can do through virtual learning. These tools will save the time and agony over repositioning or redoing their work just so that I can see what they can do. I have seen their work improve drastically through modeling and fun worksheets, and the transparency forms will help them practice over and over again to really build on these skills. Additionally, play doh has proven to be a great sensory strategy to work on fine motor skills and letter formation for even my older elementary kids. Please help my students in any way you can! I know they can shine even more than they already are during this tough time of virtual learning, and these supplies will definitely help!
