The iPad a will make a huge difference for my students. It will allow me to be an effective online teacher, AND can be brought into the classroom when our school building reopens. It will be a tool for me to better communicate to students and families, and a tool to better facilitate class discussions online (and at school).
A colleague of ours ran a beautiful math workshop for teachers this week, and utilized the synergy of the iPad and Zoom, as well the responsiveness of the iPad to live teaching.
With the stylist, she was able to record our responses live and facilitate a rich conversation around best math practices. Last Spring, I felt inadequate while stumbling to use my cursor to record student ideas. My writing was hard to read and too slow to support our discussions, and probably did more harm than benefit. This technology will change that immediately.
In addition, an iPad will be a great tool for the classroom once we reopen. Students will have an opportunity to access new apps, and record their thinking by using the microphone, video and camera. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have a brand new iPad and stylist to improve my teaching and ultimately to improve the learning of my precious students at home and in the classroom.
