Learning is more than just being in a classroom and particpating in a lesson. For adolescents especially, the more a student can humanize and empathize with an experience the greater the learning. Books open up new worlds and experiences for students, increase their understanding, and enhance students abilities to see and understand multiple perspectives. My students will benefit from reading The Hate U Give and All American Boys as their emotions will be evoked, as well as questions about humanity, civil rights and legal precident. Reading provides students the opportunity to escape into another world; igniting passion and intellectual debate.

About my class
