Elementary educators in Belmont Public Schools recognize the importance of putting more books featuring diverse characters into the hands of all children. My colleagues and I have been working hard to build classroom libraries that recognize all diverse experiences, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities. The "read aloud" is many children's favorite part of the school day, whether that school day is remote or in person. With each read aloud, we hope that children will find mirrors where they see themselves reflected as well as windows where they can peek into the lives of others who are different from them. Please consider donating here to help me purchase more diverse books for my students.
