My students are seeking ways to make connections with the world around them, even though they are being asked to spend more time at home. Nature journaling is an effective way to enhance focus, foster curiosity and strengthen creativity, all from the safety of home. This is a way to emphasize connections to the world around them, and can remind students that learning can happen anywhere they look. Nature is our oldest teacher, and we will use its lessons to practice making connections, bravely ask questions, and deeply observe natural phenomena. Students will be encouraged to meld the languages of words, drawings and numbers as they reflect on what they learn and see. Nature journaling is also a way for students to develop mindful habits to help them through these chaotic times. This is truly a time where students crave meaningful learning, and nature journaling provides a means.
