My students love hands-on activities that require independence and the ability to work together. Many of these materials will contribute to the organization of our classroom to support the success of these activities while also giving students the freedom to gather and return their own materials. The storage cart, file organizer, paper trays, folders, and pencil boxes will always be accessible to all students to support their independence. Labels will allow me to show what materials belong were to keep the class organized. To ensure I am organized as a teacher, I will use the large binders to organize all activities and small group activities to pull from in future classes. While completing group work, students are accountable for a job within their team, so everyone has a voice and input. Currently, students hold onto their job cards, which has made it difficult to keep track. The lanyards and hooks will allow students to wear their jobs and easily assign and retrieve. Many supplies will ensure every student can use their own materials instead of sharing as they do now, such as scissors, highlighters, post-its, dry erase markers, tape, pencils, and glue. With over half of the student population designated English Learners, my class uses many sentence frames and visual supports to break down language barriers. The construction paper, staple gun, staples, laminating pouches, and velcro dots will help make these visual supports last longer and be more accessible to students. Lastly, it has been difficult to hear students while wearing a mask, and the voice amplifier will contribute to student confidence ensuring their voice is heard, especially if they are more shy or quiet.
