In just a couple of weeks, many students will be starting school remotely. And for my new group of incoming kindergartners, this will be their first school experience ever. One main goal is to create a class that feels rich with a sense of community and belonging. This will be challenging in a remote setting, but all the more important. The book "Our Class is a Family" and reading tools will be delivered to each student and facilitate a connection between myself and them. We will use the book, finger flashlight, and reading pointer throughout the year for shared reading and literacy activities. The message of the book and the shared experience of working with the text and tools will help us form our classroom "family".
