Throughout my five years of teaching, many students enter into the STEM class with a misunderstanding that they are only present to discuss various science topics and complete experiments. Although the science is considered to be the front runner of the class curricular, it is only the tip of the iceberg to what students can truly experience and learn. Observing different ecosystems where plants and animals live or going on virtual tours at zoos and aquariums can be exciting! However, what about figuring out how do people design bridges, houses, and amusement park rides?
My goal for this year is to put more emphasis on the engineering aspect of STEM. Students enjoy the thought of building and creating different projects and it provides them with a huge boost of confidence. By having the requested building sets and models, these projects will help enhance critical thinking and analytical skills that can be translated and utilized in the classroom during ELA and Math lessons.
