Our High School students are a diverse group of people. We have over 1600 students and a large number of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. A few years ago we opened a full food Pantry called The Nest. Our HIgh School students and their families have access to this at no cost. We started to see that there were lots of students and families that struggled financially and were not always able to have access to quality personal hygiene items. There were some students that did not want to come to school because they did not have these items. Having good attendance increases students' success in school; for some students access to basic items is a barrier to school attendance. We started with teachers donating sample bottles of hygiene items and that helped in the short term. Some people have donated hygiene items, but we go through those donations so quickly we need to have a ready supply to provide to our students. As we head back to school for the 20-21 school year it is of the utmost importance that The Nest is stocked and ready to help our students be successful. Being cleaned up and ready to learn has never been more important than it is now. These donations of hygiene items will help numerous students feel good about themselves and ready to tackle this school year.
