Children and adults learn information better when there is more than one sense being engaged. Currently, the only sensory experiences my students can have involve sand or water play. This year, due to COVID restrictions, we are not able to use those sensory engaging centers. The addition of a light sensory table to my classroom will help my special thinkers stay engaged in play and learning activities. It is a developmentally appropriate way to help my special thinkers communicate when language is still being learned. It will also serve as a calming experience and safe place to play when the everyday chaos and noise of a busy preschool disabilities classroom becomes too overwhelming and overstimulating for some students.
