I am currently teaching through distance learning. During distance learning, the student's home life becomes part of our classroom. Our families are also working, caring for babies, having phone conversations, and going on with everyday tasks in the background during our live class meetings, sometimes not realizing that we can see and hear all. Also, brothers and sisters attending other classes create a lot of background noise and distractions for our first graders. My students come from high poverty and don’t always have access to a quiet room. Headphones would greatly benefit students and their families. Headphones will reduce background distractions and help students focus. Microphones on headphones will allow teachers to hear student’s responses. Students and teachers would be more comfortable in a quiet setting at home. Families would be able to continue their daily routine without worrying about distracting the class and our teaching. Returning to school is everyone's hope, but from the Central Valley in California, it doesn't seem like it is going to be any time soon, if at all, this school year. We want to make the virtual learning environment the best we possibly can and the most successful. Our Fabulous First graders deserve the best!
