In reflecting on providing remote therapy in the spring of last year, inequity among students, in my mind, was the biggest barrier that consistently bubbles up to the top. One of the greatest, and most stressful challenges that I had in providing consistent therapy to each of my students was access to appropriate therapy materials. Even with diligent effort to work with parents in advance to gather materials, it was often difficult, uncomfortable, and time consuming to work out what materials children had to access from home. I had to work up multiple interventions based on each child's individual circumstance, parents often did not have time to do scavenger hunts for materials, and I often was not able to plan using worksheets because folks did not have printers or time to print... and I did not have the time to individually print out and mail materials on a weekly basis. Kids simply did not have fair access to materials, therapy helpers, and digital tools. This project will ensure that each child on my caseload has the basic materials that he or she needs to participate in occupational therapy sessions either in person or remotely.
