The students will create many artworks using a variety of materials and learning how to use the tools to create different effects and learning the techniques. They will practice shading by using hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, and blending techniques using pencil, colored pencils, and oil pastels. They will learn gesture, contour, and perspective drawing. The use of watercolor markers will be used to emphasize a watercolor fusion technique, along with creating wet on wet, wet on dry, and dry on wet techniques using watercolor paints. Many of the art elements (value, color, line, shape, form and space) and principles of design (rhythm, variety, emphasis, movement pattern, contrast, balance and unity) will be learned through these techniques.
