Students will understand the struggles and lives of many different groups of people by reading quality literature by diverse authors and featuring diverse characters. This understanding can help students become more thoughtful and considerate of others, while simultaneously encouraging and empowering them to take action with the issues that matter. Students will not only be able to see themselves as the hero in a story, but look at their peers and understand they are all capable of being that hero. Students deserve a classroom that mirrors them and provides windows into other lives, cultures, and experiences.
