In addition to the short excerpts of books in our curriculum, providing my students the ability to choose their own book from our classroom library empowers them with reading. This is my students first year of middle school and they have six classes. With distance learning, the pace of instruction has changed and students who are early finishers have the choice to read when they completed their tasks. Beginning our classroom library will allow students to travel to new places when they are required to stay at home during this time. Students will be able to check out books from our library and will be able to pick them up from school or they will be dropped off to them. These books that I have chosen deal with many real world problems that our students are facing today. These books will be used for many years to come and are a great start to creating a library that my students and I will continue to utilize.
