Many of the skills my students have missed out on are cooperative learning opportunities and hands on experiences. The science models will be used to help them make deeper connections to the science units that we study in 3rd grade. These models will be used by following years as well. Each set of students for the next few years will be facing many of the same learning challenges and any opportunity to get their hands on a model helps them make those connections faster. The dictionaries and atlases will be used by my students to increase literacy, vocabulary, and familiarity with the world around them. These items can and will be used cooperatively as well. This will provide them additional opportunities to learn how to work together.
