This year, my high school will be starting a Project Lit club! This club focuses on encouraging students to read diverse books. Most of the books on the Project Lit list are examples of "windows and mirrors" books. Project lit books are books the students can "see" themselves in and learn about other cultures. Through this club, we also hope to help students to build their skills in literacy and improve their academics overall. So many great things can stem from the Project Lit club! Thankfully our school was given a grant to purchase books. But, because joining the club is optional, we have to think of ways to encourage the students to join. One of the best ways to get students interested in joining activities is to provide a good time and snacks! As you can see from the list, I've asked for snacks and drinks that can be provided to the students when the club meets. I'm hoping that by providing snacks and fun activities it will keep the students interested in participating in the club and reading more books!
