The 2020 school year has brought about many changes, and not the least of those is the fact that I no longer have a classroom to call my own. I am currently teaching from a stage and two lobbies to my in-school learners. For my distance learners, I rotate among four different school laptops, my cellphone, and my husband's computer at home. Having a laptop to call my own will give me the chance to better prepare lesson plans, PowerPoints, and my Microsoft Teams page for distance learners. Most importantly, though, my students will reap the benefits of a classroom laptop. This laptop will be used to video live lessons and science projects in a medium accessible to all distance learners. These videos will give them a better chance of understanding the material and standards of learning, even if we can't be together. Additionally, accessing my students via Teams and other virtual connection capabilities will give my students the feels that they are actually at school with us and make the transition to online learning much more seamless. Lastly, the laptop will provide better access for my students and their parents to communicate with me. I will able to send and receive messages, post assignments, and research content and learning strategies from this one device. Communication is key to great education, and having a device that can do it all will strengthen how I reach my students and community every day.
