Entering the virtual classroom has been challenging for most, if not all. Even more so for my ninth graders whom anticipated entering their high school career engaging in new activities that could set the course for their future. With anxieties high and feeling of confinement, these books will help facilitate a virtual book club designed to encourage mindfulness through the freedom books provide. Fredrick Douglass said it best "Once you learn to read, you will forever be free." Not only will these books assist them with exploring a world beyond their own and finding peace in the pages of a book, they will also facilitate consistent practice which is essential when sharpening their reading skills. The books selected are only the beginning of the inclusive reading selections hand picked with my students in mind.
