The second graders have worked really hard to understand the elements of traditional stories. We have examined stories from different cultures and found similarities across all the tales. The students have taken this learning and they are creating versions of traditional tales that reflect who they are. One group has decided to create their own imagining of The Little Red Hen. Some of the versions include "Santa's Unhelpful Helpers", "The Little White Unicorn", and "Mom Does it all Herself". The students are so excited to see their own names on the cover of their books! Students would use the Bare Books to put their writing in a more permanent form and would use the sets of sharpies to add their own illustrations to the pages. The small sharpies would be used for text and the larger ones would be used for their pictures.
