I am requesting crayons, storage boxes, reading workbooks and poly envelopes. These materials will be used in teaching reading to my second graders. My students will use these items while learning new phonics sounds, as well as, new sight words and multi-syllabic words as they continue to learn to read and grow as a reader. These items will be used in teaching the Orton Gillingham Phonics Instruction and approach to reading. Students will grow to be life long lovers of reading with the Orton Gillingham approach to reading. I will use these materials each day during whole group, small group, and one-on-one with all of my students. This program will begin in a virtual learning environment. Although this will be challenging, each student will given all the materials for the lessons in the plastic envelope. Students will be using craft grid plastic canvas strips to learn sight words. They will place the grids under their papers, write the word with the red crayon, and then trace/spell the new word to help them retain the word and its spelling. The students will be able to feel the bumps created with the grid and crayon, creating a multi-sensory experience. These "red word" materials will stored and organized in the poly file envelopes. This will limit losing materials and help organization. The phonics and extension activities in the Recipe for Reading supplemental books will take learning to the next level, while providing connected texts and activities. The fast food trays, with sand, will create a sensory board, students will use to draw out letters that match the auditory sound hear. Finally, the individual storage tubs will allow each student to store all their materials separately, this will keep them COVID-19 safe.
