We are trailblazers! Virtual Innovation Academy (VIA) at DTSOI has been in place for 6th-12th grade for 6 years, but this is our first year for K-5th grade. Due to the pandemic, K-5 VIA came into existence earlier than expected, so we do not have all of the tools to support virtual teaching in place yet. Families in our district wanted the option for their children to go to school online, and we are eager to provide them with the best. Our virtual academy will enable students to have a safe learning environment while building relationships with the classmates they have been missing. The items I am requesting are tools that will ensure my students feel connected as a class and have access to the best virtual experience possible. The document camera and webcam are especially important to meeting this goal. I will use the cameras to provide students with a quality education that helps them feel truly connected to their class. The cameras will provide flexibility to set up each activity in the most beneficial way whether it is modeling a problem up close with the document camera or stepping back from the web cam to demonstrate a physical movement for a learning connection. The cameras will be used to support relational connections for my students and to plan amazing experiences such as virtual field trips to our school's freight farm or culinary kitchen. The laptop stand, wireless keyboard & mouse may be more behind the scenes, but these items are also essential to helping set up a positive teaching experience. They will enable me implement effective lessons that are not hindered by lack of space or flexibility.
