I will offer The Hate U Give as one reading choice on a list of several novels offered for literature circles. In literature circles students share their insights with one another in a small group setting. For many students, this setting helps them feel comfortable to share opinions. Also, choice helps create engagement; reluctant readers are more likely to read, discuss, and really immerse themselves in a powerful, current, and important story. The Hate U Give is such a gripping story that students will easily engage in thought provoking discussion. This novel will widen the perspectives offered in our school library and will help students gain empathy and compassion.
