By providing these materials, my students will have a chance to explore, hands-on, the phenomena that make the world work. I believe science is one of the best ways to keep kids curious about the world and have seen first-hand the wonderful ways in which students work to understand the world around them. When was the last time you stopped and thought about how you could stop a house from blowing away in a wind storm? Or if a mountain will last forever? With the supplies I am asking for, my students will be able to explore those 3rd and 4th-grade science topics and more. These supplies will also help students learn about sound, weather and climate, force and motion, electricity, and the human body. These materials will allow students to engage in hands-on activities to better understand the science standards. Some of those hands-on activities including build bridges, figuring out which materials are magnetic and not, and designing a bridge to test friction for 3rd graders. In 4th grade, students will build roller coasters to test energy transfer, create a flashlight to When students are able to explore rather than just be told, "this is how the world works," they are able to build deeper, meaningful connections with the science content while developing skills that will help them become life-long learners.
