The National Geographic fossil dig kit will be beneficial to our students learning because it is an exciting academic hands-on at-home learning experience. Due to the current pandemic happening at the moment our students cannot be in class with us. All their learning is being done electronically. We miss having the students in class with us doing projects and watching them smile and interact with their fellow classmates around them. When doing projects in class the materials are provided, and students or their parents don't need to worry about the cost. Since we cannot be in class right now we don't have the ability to fund all the projects we would like to do. A majority of our students come from poverty and their families cannot afford to purchase curricular activities such as this. Furthermore with schools being closed social interaction between the students is dwindling and we want to do something to lessen that. Being at home trying to learn not in their usual classroom setting is tough, and Mr. Reid and I believe this kit will make distance learning more enjoyable. This kit will allow the students to feel connected to not only us but their fellow classmates. We will be digging up the fossils as a class on video chat and will be learning about what we excavate together. The students will then have a booklet to look at that tells them what fossil they found, and information about it. This lesson will be fun, and memorable. The students will have 15 fossils to keep to remind them of their Jurassic adventures and distance learning experience as a class.
