Board books allow young emergent readers access to literature sources that inspire literacy development. Fine motor skills and self-control are two areas that pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are refining. Sturdy books that can handle being dropped and pages that don’t tear enable the youngest library patrons to be successful in caring for school library resources. Sharing and caring for school library books is one of the first lessons in responsibility and becoming part of a literacy community that a primary student experiences. An emergent board book library will set our learners up for success as they begin their literacy journey.
