As a specials art teacher, I like to support classroom teachers as much as possible by including great literature in my lessons. I know that reading to students can greatly increase their vocabulary, reading skills, and love for reading! The books I try to use are books that students might not typically read in their classroom, as they are books about unique artists, artwork, and different forms of art. I receive a small budget for art supplies, but there is none left over for literature. I want to grow my art classroom library to better serve my students. I like to think that in art, we don’t just create with our hands, we create with our minds, too! Additionally, having even just one iPad will allow my students to take pictures of their artwork to share with family and friends. This will allow my students to create a digital portfolio for them to display their work. In these unprecedented times, in which we are asked to limit school-wide art shows, it would be such a joy for them to be able to share their work with others.
