One of the most important parts of the 1st grade classroom is the rug! Classroom rugs are used multiple times throughout the day for whole group instruction and varied activities. Students can use it during independent reading time, working on group projects, as well as a flexible seating option. Having an alternate place to sit, other than a desk, allows students to concentrate, which ultimately increases productivity in the classroom. Classroom rugs build community and gives students a space to play and learn. The addition of a rug in our classroom would help it to be the most effective and engaging learning environment it can be. The rug is where students read and learn important skills. This includes phonics, math, science, and social studies. The rug is such an important part of our daily routine and it would be such a great addition to our room!
