Numerous studies have shown that students with access to a reading library develop 1) a greater interest in reading, 2) improved literacy skills and comprehension and 3) increased vocabulary and syntax levels. It's my hope to create a FVR or Free Voluntary Reading center with a library of stories as diverse as my students.My desire is to increase their comprehension skills through Voluntary Reading time in Class, in ALL LEVELS. Our school library is full of books, but none in Spanish for them at their level. I teach students in Spanish 1,2, 3, & 4, so many varying levels for sure, which requires more books to reach more levels. If my students had these materials, they could then access the books in class and choose a book, topic or category of their choice. I’d love for my students to see the same benefits of free reading in English, carry over for them in Spanish.
