One of the most unique things I do in my classroom every year is use Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition to teach a myriad of skills--from reading informational texts, to creative writing, all the way to interpersonal interactions. One of the greatest struggles with doing this is my limited supplies of the core materials, leading to many shared books and other resources. I truly believe that one of the greatest impacts Covid-19 has had upon my students is a social regression of sorts, and I found last year that one of the cures for this malady was having students engage in a collective roleplaying experience. Having a year of hybrid school and even some students not seeing their friends for months had an affect upon them. I aim to help not only rekindle lost skills, but create new ones. The greatest focus of the Dungeons and Dragons unit in my class is to help them become better communicators and be able to abstractly think through problems and their solutions. I've seen immense success with it in the past, and having these resources would make it so much easier to foster a powerful learning environment through this unique table top roleplaying game. I also run the Dungeons and Dragons club at Timpview and we have over 50 active students who eagerly look forward to Fridays when they can play with their friends. Having this increase of supplies would be massively beneficial to this club as well.
