My students will be listening to me read aloud picture books while modeling the strategies of making connections, inferences, and predictions, as well as asking questions, and monitoring problems and solutions. We will be creating anchor charts about each book we read and the skills we apply to our reading. Donations to my Interactive Read Aloud Books project will improve my teaching by allowing me to interact with my students and our new books in a way that a textbook just doesn't provide. Students need to see the strategies being used, not just told how to use them. By reading aloud to the class, I will be able to stop, model, and check students' comprehension as we're reading. Having the students discuss, create anchor charts, and ask questions allows me to monitor their learning continuously.
