My student is learning through an autism lens. He is nonverbal, has tremendous difficult communicating, and has no static physical communication system. He is in the 8th grade. My project is to fund a plethora of functional skill exercises for him that can help to strengthen his fingers (for writing and iPad communication stamina), build his word awareness (as his family are non-English speakers, yet he is learning English in school), and prepare him for successful end enhanced living situations in the future. Ultimately, I want to help him to learn, live, and love his successes. Since we are learning through distance, some boxes (such as his name, number, and address awareness) we will use every morning, then I will switch out “choice boxes” weekly for him to have at home so that we are constantly practicing skills, but he does not get tired/bored with them.
