At our school, we celebrate diversity and encourage inclusiveness. In a school made up of various cultures and ethnic groups, it's important for students to find a novel that truly speaks to them. As a first-year teacher, I am grateful to have inherited a classroom library from the previous teachers. However, most of the books in my classroom library exclusively featured white characters and do not represent all of my students. The donations to this project will provide the opportunity for each student in my classroom to feel seen and heard. By creating a diverse classroom library, my students will not only see themselves reflected in the stories they read, but also continue to cultivate a culture of empathy and inclusiveness.
