Project Part 1: Though they may seem to be random these supplies, including handmade stress balls, sticky notes, emotions journal, headphones, pens/pencils, and water bottles, are key to an ultimate thriving pack. Each item plays a role in the scholars' interactions in/out of the classroom. The handmade stress balls supplies are to create coping tools, the pointer sticky notes are to be used when reading Esperanza Rising while the emotions journal are to check in with scholars. To minimize environmental distractions headphones and reusable water bottles are a must. My scholars are faced with the intense reality of learning while also juggling a global health crisis, entering middle school, online/hybrid teaching, and constantly shifting personal lives. A Thriving Pack gives scholars tools to be successful during these challenging times as they can learn to mange their emotions, participate fully in classes, and cut down on distractions. Project Part 2: The books are to support a book club for the class. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. As scholars are not be able to meet with one another to socialize nor do we have a school library, the book club will serve both needs. Scholars will have the opportunity to check out books, explore their interests, and interact with their peers. They will also be able to choose books that interest them. They will have access to many new worlds, adventures, and cultures through these novels. The girls will treat the books with the ultimate love and care as they find themselves buried somewhere between the pages of a good book.
