These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My Spanish classroom is a place that my students can really enjoy and soak up the language they are trying to acquire. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read at a level they understand. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to build a love of reading in more than one language.
With these new books, my students will be able to read at their own level of comprehension and experience success navigating a new language.
Research shows that we learn other languages best by using a natural approach [i.e. hearing/seeing messages and attaching meaning to those messages]. Overtime we start to understand, and begin to produce simple messages in that language and voila! These books will continue to help my students grow stronger in their language proficiency and reading abilities. My students have already expressed shock, surprise and joy at their ability to understand books in Spanish. This project will only help to further extend that experience for all of my students.
